Iowa murder suspects caught after fleeing to Missouri

AMES – This pair of suspects who allegedly murdered a young man in Ames, Iowa, are now securely behind bars, awaiting the heavy hand of justice to deliver the blows they may deserve.

Police in the sleepy college town of Ames, Iowa, investigated a homicide at approximately 6:30 PM on January 18, 2025. Officers were dispatched along with medical responders to an apartment in the 200 block of South 5th Street in Ames. Upon their arrival, they found a man identified as Parker Stoneburner, suffering from a gunshot wound. Parker later died from his injuries.

As a result of the continued investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Murder in the 1st Degree, a class “A” felony for Zoe A. Anderson, age 21, of Boone, Iowa and Abraham M. Guhnics, age 19, of Independence, Missouri. On February 24, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service – Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Anderson and Guhnics in Independence, Missouri on the outstanding murder warrants. They were held in the Jackson County Detention Center in Kansas City, Missouri, until the were transferred to the Story county jail in Ames. Anderson is held on $1,000,300.00 bond, and Guhnics is held on $1,000,000 bond, according to the jail.

NIT previously reported that as a result of the continued investigation, 19-year-old Destiny Skurdal of Ames, Iowa, has been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony.  Her charges appears now to be upgraded to Murder in the 1st Degree, a class “A” felony. She remains held in the Story county jail on $104,000 bond.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

The Ames Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals Service-Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshals Service – Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force.
