CEDAR FALLS – Cedar Falls Police have arrested a man in connection with a bicycle accident that occurred in March that seriously injured a young woman.
NIT earlier reported that on March 13th, at approximately 3:41 PM,Cedar Fall police officers were dispatched to the report of bicyclist who had been struck by a GMC pick-up while she was riding her bike on the trail. 22-year-old Krisha Keeran was near the entrance to Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, 3205 W. 12th Street, when she was struck.
The driver was identified as 42-year-old Ryan Pontasch who was driving the pick-up when the vehicle in front of him slowed to make a left-hand turn into the golf course. Pontasch looked away from the road and swerved to avoid a rear-end collision. When he swerved, the vehicle exited the roadway and Pontasch drove onto the bike path, striking Keeran, as well as several signs and a tree. Keeran was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for her injuries. She has since been released.
Ryan Anderson Pontasch (pictured at top), age 42 of Cedar Falls, was arrested on the following charges:
– Serious Injury by Vehicle – Class D Felony
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Serious Misdemeanor
– Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability – Simple Misdemeanor
– Failure to Maintain Control – Simple Misdemeanor
Cedar Falls Police were assisted by Cedar Falls Fire Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Mercy One Paramedics, Black Hawk County Dispatch, the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office and Rassmussen Towing.
