MASON CITY – NIACC freshman Bennett McCollow has been selected as the ICCAC Division II baseball player of the week for the week of March 28-April 3.

McCollow, a second baseman from Minneapolis, hit five home runs with 11 RBIs in a doubleheader sweep over No. 5 Kirkwood on March 30 at Roosevelt Field.

McCollow hit two homers in Game 1 and followed up with a three-homer game in Game 2. Of his five home runs, he hit for the home-run cycle, hitting a solo homer, two-run homer, three-run homer and a grand slam.

It was just the third time in the last 10 seasons a Trojan has hit three homers in one game.

McCollow is the second NIACC player to earn the league’s player of the week honor this season. The Trojans’ Logan Milene won the award for the week of Feb. 14-20.

NIACC (13-10 overall, 3-5 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in single league game at Kirkwood. The game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
