GALENA, Ill. – The NIACC women’s golf team placed second at the Clarke University Invitational on Tuesday with a 390.

Coe College won the four-team tournament at the Galena Golf Club with a 377. Concordia University (Wisconsin) was third with a 405 and Clarke was fourth with a 463.

“Galena Golf Club was a tough task (Tuesday),” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, “and we’re disappointed we didn’t come away with the win.

“The weather held for the most part but it’s just difficult to get much going when it’s cole and practice has been sparse.”

NIACC was led by sophomore Hailey Panos with a 48-45 – 93.

“Hailey Panos put a decent round together,” Frenz said. “She knows she needs to get into the mid-80s range.”

Also for the Trojans, MaKenna Hanson shot 46-50 – 96, Kirsten Boerjan shot 46-51 – 97, Alyssa Alert shot 48-56 – 104 and Sophie Lunning shot 55-52 – 107.

“MaKenna Hanson did a nice job of keeping things together after a difficult putting day,” Frenz said. “And I’m very happy for Kirsten Boerjan to crack the top three. She’s a great competitior.

“Alyssa and Sophie are putting in the time and effort and their games will come around.”

NIACC returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Iowa Central Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

“We look forward to teeing it up this weekend in Fort Dodge,” Frenz said.
