From what I have been told, there is a real estate promoter that is very interested in buying the large pit area for a housing development. They had to maintain the property for five years after closing to get a huge tax break, that time is now up.

Our children leave when graduated and never come back do to the lack of true business knowledge these people have brought to city boards. I bring up the fair grounds as the example of nobody wanting to correct a problem, just look the other way or say it’s not their issue. TYPICAL.
Not sure what caused the death but a ‘waiting to happen’ lawsuit for our jail is their decision to overrule an inmate’s regular doctor. If an inmate is prescribed a medication that is a narcotic, the jail personnel won’t allow the inmate to take the prescription. Their on staff ‘doctor’ will prescribe another medication for the patient. There is no weaning off of the old drug. By the way, the on staff doctor isn’t a doctor, she is a nurse practitioner.
When asked why they feel it necessary to overrule a doctor who knows the patient, the jail staff replied because narcotics are illegal. Besides, many inmates are in for drug-related charges. Giving them access to narcotics is not an option. Question asked – how is allowing an inmate his own prescribed medication giving access to other prisoners? Response – We can’t watch them all the time.’ It seems to me watching a prisoner take a pill, and then checking to make sure it was swallowed isn’t all that difficult.

@Katie-Some law officers are good and some are not so good. It is just like anything else. I think a lot of problems come from their supervisors trying to make a name for themselves. I can remember the time when the police were your friend and now they have become the enemy in some cases. Arresting people who are walking down the street is way out of line and the way they try to set up drivers is off the wall too.

Yes, it does require city approval. I think there is some leeway for yard sale signs but any advertisement requires a permit. Even realtors and insurance company’s can not put up signs.
Question? Why do the Cerro Gordo County sheriffs get to drive the county sheriff vehicles home and to work? Does the MC Police officers do that? Seems like a lot of free transportation and extra mileage on the squad cars.
@Katie-I believe the idea is by having a squad car sit outdoors in a driveway helps reduce the chance of crime in the area.

In some areas of the country, there are nice doublewide mobile homes in county parks where police officers are allowed to live rent-free. The value of their rent is taxable income, however. The LEO presence cuts down on crime in the parks. The officers earn their keep in their off-duty time.
in some places officers are basically supposed to be ready at the drop of a hat so instead of having to run to the station to get their vehicle they take them home.
so why doesn’t MC police do the same.?
@Katie-I would say there are not enough squad cars. They rotate four cars on each shift. The other cars are older and are used for emergency’s.

I don’t think that anyone should be able to have an automatic assault weapon except military and police forces that have been trained to use them. These guns are meant to kill people, and many people at a time. So the general public should not be able to own one in my opinion.
An assault weapon is fully automatic and they cost well over 5000.00 plus government fees plus you have to have a permit so the average citizen cannot afford to own one unless he buys it on the black market. The democrats and media want every body to believe that you can go to a gun shop and buy one but you can’t.

David is correct. A assault weapon is full automatic and you can not buy them or own them without a special permit. They are very expensive. The weapons used in California were NOT assault weapons. They were semi-automatic rifles. That means you must pull the trigger for each shot. They had tried to modify one but were unable to do it. The magazines used were illegal in California,

@Citizen-I see where you are coming from. But, the military and the gun stores do not consider them to be assault rifles unless they are full automatic. Go to a gun store and ask for a assault rifle and they will either tell you they don’t have any or you need a special permit to buy one.
ok let me rephrase this, an assault weapon is select fire, capable of firing both semi auto and fully auto. The first assault weapon was the SG44 which was made by germany in WW2. Trying to link a semi auto only in the category as an assault weapon is not only incorrect but misleading which is what the democrats do very well. If I go to a gun shop and ask for an “assault weapon” they will ask me to narrow that down. Every weapon sold in a gun shop is considered an “assault weapon”. That’s the point. Assault a target, some kind of game, or a person (hopefully in defense). For most of the uneducated public, the term “assault weapon” is interchangeable “big scary black gun”. Semi or fully auto doesn’t even come into consideration, how the gun makes them feel is the deciding factor for them.

I used to do some gunsmithing back in the 80’s, I used to own an HK91 paratroop carbine, 3 AK47’s, 2 SKS’s, and 1 AR 15. Of all those the HK was the only one considered an assault weapon and this is according to the gun world,only those that are ignorant of the subject and only go by what they read think that a semi auto is assault weapon.

ok since you want to go there then here goes. The 2nd amendment was written because our founding fathers were going through a war with a tyrannical government with a standing army. They didn’t want to go through that again so most of them were against a standing army, instead they wanted the citizens to protect our country so they put in the 2nd amendment, the citizens have the right to whatever weapons they could get to protect our country. around 100 years ago our government started to change and they wanted more control. Now it is hard to tell the difference sometimes between republicans and democrats. According to the 2nd amendment, ANY law that infringes our right to bear arms is unconstitutional but the government passed laws anyway. Politicians, when they want to pass a law change the definition of the subject matter to correlate to what they want done. The term assault weapon started in WW2 but they have slowly changed the definition of what an assault weapon is to match what laws they want to pass. This may start a war here but if a criminal thinks that his victim is armed he will either hesitate or choose another victim. With the exception of a mental health problem i say make it easier for a law abiding person to obtain and carry a gun, the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun. In the 60’s the car companies built muscle cars, they set the standards, by the time the 80’s came along the cars changed so they changed the definition of what a muscle car is. You can add all the accessories you want to make it look like a muscle car or an assault weapon but looks don’t mean squat. They can put in the dictionary an assault weapon has a barrel shroud or a pistol grip or a detachable magazine but that doesn’t make it an assault weapon, the ONLY and I mean ONLY thing that makes it an assault weapon is the select fire, everything else is just BS.

ok this is the last time i am going to say this because you people are just not getting it. The point I was making was that certain guns and weapons should not be available to the general public. Some guns are to specifically kill people, many people, quickly. I have talked to many soldiers and they said when that time comes they will do whatever it takes to take the equipment with them or destroy it.

anonymouse, My first 6 years I was fulltime in the guard, In the 1133rd we did missions hauling units and equipment, i was on the road 10 months each year. After that I was an instructor which means i worked 5 to 6 months a year and I am talking monday through saturday and sometimes sunday. I took every class that came along which means even more time. the last 6 years i was weapons instructor as well as driving instructor and the last 3 years on the rifle/pistol team which meant more time. The framers of our Constitution had a grand vision for the our Nation but could not have foreseen the evolution of weaponry. The right to bear Arms was one thing back then and quite another today due to technology. What type of Armament the public has a right to use needs to be redefined but that will never happen. California has the toughest and most worthless gun laws in the country. They have banned all Assault Weapons (that did a lot of good). They have limited magazines to 10 rounds or less “The terrorist paid a lot of attention to that., It is a may issue state (It sure stopped the terrorist). It does not allow open carry (If people had been armed they could have protected themselves), They require background check at gun shows and for all firearm purchases (That sure stopped them). And they have a ten day minimum waiting period (That really helped). FOOLS.

Pistols are notoriously inaccurate. You must be for arming and training every child from kindergarten on up in handling firearms. Just because you are trained and fairly accurate with a pistol at the shooting range doesn’t mean you will be calm and collected when faced with a situation like you describe.
shooting at the range will give you confidence in your shooting ability. It is what is inside you that determines wither you can pull the trigger or not. If you are a good shot but you feel inside that you don’t think you can pull the trigger then you should not be carrying a weapon.

Ive been in a situation with hostile gunfire. A crazy man in the woods behind me. It is startling to say the least. Better to be armed than not armed. now i know where you get your information bodacious, i saw yesterday on msnbc that there was 352 mass shootings in the U.S. this year but i read on reuters today that there was only 166 mass shootings this year.

Actually, The Washington Post and the New York Times reported that ‘fact’ along with many other media outlets. I checked Fact Check (that notorious left wing web site) and found that Mass Shooting Tracker’s definition of mass shooting isn’t what mine is. I should have checked fact Check first. It doesn’t matter-any mass shooting is 1 too many.

Absolutely-I know a public official personally and his son was picked up on a DUI and the charges just went away and never went to court. It has been happening for years. Do you really think the Country Club set never drinks and drives when they leave the club. It is hands off for those people.

Absolutely. The Sauers’ that finally moved out of the state 4 years ago still have pending warrants and continue to threaten people still residing in Mason City. Their death threats and intimidation are continuous and the MCPD refuses to do anything about it but, the Sauers’ call from Florida, or North Carolina (the family split up, surprise, surprise) and the police go knocking for them. The ongoing joke was that the family was made out of Teflon because nothing ever stuck…… makes one wonder.
It’s not up to the MCPD. It’s up to the victims to file charges and then prove them.
The victim has reported it to the MCPD and given them the recorded phone calls, text messages, and emails. Still nothing. Even an attorney that they have contacted in town said that it would be a long shot to get harassment charges or a no contact order. You would think, with the entire family involved in the intimidation and at least two members giving death threats it would be considered Domestic Terrorism under the Patriot Act.
