CLEAR LAKE – Local officials gathered in Clear Lake Thursday for a groundbreaking ceremony to recognize the largest apartment complex project in the town’s history.

“A beautiful day for a the groundbreaking of the 1200 Jade Apartments,” the city of Clear Lake relayed in a statement Thursday. “We’re thrilled to to see this 98-unit development, the largest in Clear Lake’s history, take shape. Located at the intersection of Highway 18 and North 20th St., we look forward to this project’s completion next summer!”

On hand were City Administrator Scott Flory, Mayor Nelson Crabb, and North Iowa Corridor CEO Chad Schreck, among many others, to mark the occasion.

“Exciting times for North Iowa!” said Chad Schreck, President & CEO of North Iowa Corridor EDC. He spoke at the groundbreaking of the 1200 Jade Apartments.  His agency has been instrumental in many new projects in Clear Lake and neighboring Mason City.

“This 98-unit project will be the largest in Clear Lake’s history, addressing the housing shortage and shaping our community’s future.”

Earlier, Mayor Crabb addressed concerns in the community about the size of the project.

“We are extremely excited, however, to welcome our first non-income and non-age restricted apartment project – a $16-million capital investment in our City – which is about 90 units,” Mayor Crabb said.  “Many of these investments in our community I do understand make some of our residents uncomfortable. However, much like our own lives, we have choices to make. We can live the life we have – or one that we have the potential to live. I’m bullish about Clear Lake’s potential.”
