OBIT: Alvin J. Kramer

Alvin J. Kramer was born to Clarence and Viola (Phillips) Kramer in Plum Creek Township, Kossuth County, Iowa on September 9, 1937.

Alvin J. Kramer was born to Clarence and Viola (Phillips) Kramer in Plum Creek Township, Kossuth County, Iowa on September 9, 1937. He grew up in the Algona area and graduated from St. Cecelia Academy in 1955. Alvin married Margie Louise Johnson December 27, 1958, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. During their 65 years of marriage the family grew with 4 daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great children, with number 8 on the way.

They were very active members of St. Cecelia Church, with Alvin being involved in Knights of Columbus, fair stand pie making, usher, eucharist minister, as well as a proud supporter of Garrigan High School and Golden Bear Athletics “Go Bears!”

Alvin will be remembered as a hard-working husband and father, allowing Marge to stay home to raise their girls. As the grandchildren came along, he made extra effort to attend as many of their events as he could. After many attempts at retirement, he learned to enjoy cribbage at Classic Stop and fishing. If he had been physically able to, he would have continued working up until the day he died.

Alvin died at Kennybrook Village in Grimes on May 23, 2024, at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, Marge, daughters Cathy (Greg) Punelli of Ankeny, Cheri (Jay) Crone of Keota, Cindy (Bill) Streff of Urbandale, Connie (Chris) Jones of Milford, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Survivors also include Alvin’s siblings, Bernie (Donna) Kramer of Milford, Allen (Sue) Kramer of Hudson, WI, and Janice (Mike) Hunter of Rochester, MN. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Maynard and Richard.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the St. Cecelia Presentation Center from 3:00-6:00 PM, with a rosary at 5:45 and prayer service at 6:00. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Divine Mercy Parish – St Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. The service will be live streamed on the Divine Mercy Parish YouTube page. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Algona. Memorial contributions may be directed to Suncrest Hospice 5959 Village View Dr. Suite 100, West Des Moines, IA 50266 or Bishop Garrigan Schools 1224 N McCoy St., Algona, IA 50511.
