RURAL KOSSUTH COUNTY – A convicted Northern Iowa burglar out free while facing a swath of felonies after a house raid last year was involved in sideswiping another vehicle while allegedly driving drunk and now faces numerous new charges.
According to Kossuth County Sheriff Roger A. Fisher, on May 21, 2024, at about 5:46 AM, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of 450th Street and 45th Avenue, northwest of Swea City. The driver of an eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound vehicle. Kosuth County EMS was also paged to respond.
A Kossuth County Deputy responded to the accident and because of an investigation, arrested the driver of the eastbound vehicle, 29-year-old Dakota Mullen (pictured at top) of Whittemore, on the following charges:
• Failure to Maintain Control
• Operating while under the Influence 2nd Offense
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Possession of controlled substance, Marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense
• Possession of controlled substance, methamphetamine, 3rd or subsequent offense
• Interference with Official Acts
Kossuth County K-9 Officer Thor alerted on the eastbound vehicle, which led to the discovery of the illegal substances. Mullen was booked into the Kossuth County Jail.
An accident report was also completed by the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office.
NIT readers will recall that Mullen was involved in a house raid in March of 2023 and arrested on a swath of charges including five felonies. Over a year later, that case is still in court, not yet decided.
At this time Mullen remains behind bars. A hearing is scheduled for May 31.
