Its a damn disgrace that Carly Fiorina will not be allowed on the debate stage this evening, even though by many measures she is out performing and out rating other candidates. My personal pick is another GOP candidate but in fairness she nevertheless deserves to be heard.
She was “heard” at HP and Carly Fiorina damn near ran Hewlett-Packard into the ground.
All told, HP’s stock dropped more than 55 percent during Fiorina’s tenure as chief executive. The company laid off 30,000 employees under her leadership.

Regarding anonymity….While I don’t and won’t speak for my friends LVS & David, I certainly do see the points they are making. Most of us on here have good reason to believe Peter Lagios is posting on here multiple times a day using multiple names. I, too, think people should use one name (the same one every time) each time they post a comment on NIT. At least that way, we will know whom we are responding too or reading. And.. if you don’t like the way LVS responds to you, then quit poking the bee hive and you won’t get stung. its that simple. 😉

You new here? Its called winter in Iowa. The freeze and thaw cycle creates potholes in the asphalt pavement. Most cities wait until spring to begin the patch/repair process.
It has nothing to do with pot holes. It has to do with the streets not being cleaned off and snow piled on the corners. You always make excuses for the city not doing what we pay taxes for.

I’d gladly post on Facebook as long as there is no more posting in this site. That would eliminate Peter posting under numerous names. Everyday he has a dozen different names than the day before. That would certainly nip that.
My opinion is using Facebook is just failing to acknowledge the real elephant in the room. Peter Lagios was (as I recall) banned from this site. Yet, to this day he continues to run rampant on NIT by posting under multiple names. And to this day, he still dominates and controls the site. So, until the Lagios tumor is removed, the rest of the body can’t and won’t heal.

I don’t get how some people get to bend the rules and other people are held to them. It’s very clear. STATE OF MC NOT GOOD: After talking with a consortium of civic leaders this weekend, the consensus is the state of MC is not good. After a 10K grant study on Mason City homes was completed, the general word is the homes in MC are in terrible shape and getting worse. The wages in MC are 45% below pay grade. The hospital is thriving due to the fact buildings(vacant) can be purchased for pennies on the dollar so their is no need to build new. Can you imagine what the hospital could do for the town if they constructed new buildings on the north end, instead of buying up valuable retail space? The money that once propelled the town has moved, passed away or retired. Mayor and new council electives are blind to what is happening.The lack of business people on the council is rearing it’s ugly head. The down-town hotel/hockey arena is hinged on many things falling in line or it’s done. If done, the city has no direction for it’s future. MC is an old retirement town. It’s a big-little town.The hockey arena at the fairgrounds has never run in the black, so how can a bigger, more expensive one make it? The citizens of MC get no vote in this project. Everyone keeps telling us how the citizens /taxpayers will foot none of the expense..finding this tuff to believe. WAKE UP MC.

We know where the signs were in 2013, too, that supported his campaign of reckless destruction against the very citizens he’s sworn to serve. Eric’s path is to enrich himself and his donors/supporters (Mercy and other so-called big shots who invite him into their offices). It’s all a pay-to-play operation here (Corridor). The town is shrinking faster than ever since Eric took office (check the census #’s they do not lie). This is the problem with Biker culture. When you add guns to the mix, it turns America into the wild west. I didn’t want Iowa to get like this, and that is why I worked very hard and diligently to stop biker culture from infiltrating North Iowa any further than it has. The loud pipes were a warning siren for what was yet to come. Like any cancer or invasive species of weed, nipping it in the bud is the best policy.
Iowa is to remain a safe and tranquil place to raise your kids, and achieve peace.

I remember from the beginning of NIT he was a naturally consistent censor and propagandist. Only thru my exceptional protest and persistence did he ever adopt a policy of inclusion. His natural state is to bully and besmirch. Any opinions which are mature and intelligent are not welcome on his site. He’s no friend to democracy and community values.
NIT’s readers held the editor hostage, threatening to leave and end their subscriptions and advertisements if he didn’t conform to their desires for selective censorship. The publisher was faced with a dilemma, and he caved in to the mob’s demands. It wasn’t as if he didn’t try a policy of free speech…to be fair for a time he did, but the mob mobbed him. So what does that say about the mentality of North Iowa? Marquardt is a plebe when it comes to free speech…sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t. He hasn’t quite figured it out yet. At present he still relies on the mob to determine whose messages stay or go. Censorship never works, and that is why it is always best to adopt a uniform fair policy of allowing everyone’s comments to stand. That sets a precedent of inclusion and allows enemies and friends both to come together over discourse. NIT has driven away people precisely because they cannot trust their comments to remain as the author intended.
And I think most of the intelligent people reading this forum can agree that North Iowa possesses some REALLY STUPID people, with very limited intellects, and sour attitudes, who in essence hold the community back. If they weren’t controlling the mandates for how other people can communicate, I’d say everyone is entitled to be who they want to be…but like Republicans who control Congress… the problem is they DON’T let people be who they are inside. That’s why Republicans (at least the lower class Repubs) have always been dangerous to the arts, intellectuals, people of minority, and the free world. NIT is a representative microcosm of this setback.

the HANDICAP answers missed the point, I was talking about the 20 yr old girl that uses grandmas handicap plaquard. its illegal. The person who signs the back of it has to be in the vehicle in order to park there, as far as the handicap I had spinal stenosis and had surgery from L-2 to S-1 on it that failed. my back hurts and it goes down my leg to the point it hurts so bad. if u saw me walk into the store youd say they arnt handicapped. but I get into the store and use the cart for a crutch, its the only way I can make it around the store and be able to make it back out the my vehicle. by this time my leg has gone numb and hurts like hell with every step, so don’t judge what they look like when they get out of the vehicle, judge what they look like when they get back it.

The follow up disruption to logic begins by asking “Why would the police take her into custody in the first place if she didn’t freely admit she confessed the crime?” Miranda rights are used as a warning when police SUSPECT YOU and want to arrest you for the crime, but when YOU CONFESS YOURSELF, they are merely going on what you provided them. They would have no basis for arrest and therefore no basis to initiate Miranda warning in the first place. So it’s a bit like legal chicken and egg. Without the confession the police wouldn’t be bothering her (or at least not at that time). I think we all can arrive at the reasonable conclusion that if someone admits to a crime freely of their own will unsolicited by police, but then later recants and wants the testimony stricken that police should be able to use this in a court of law. Yes, additional evidence can coincide with the testimony, but throwing it out based on the pre-Miranda, pre arrest custody scenario defies common sense.
Miranda warnings are used before custodial interrogations when the police want to be able to use what you say against you in a court of law if you are charged. Miranda tells you that you have the right to keep you mouth shut and you have the right to an attorney. You never have to speak with the police or give them permission to search anything. However, there are times police can search without consent.
You’re missing the point. The supposed “correct” answer on the test quiz was A.) No, She had not been notified of her right to counsel. I was pointing out how absurd that was because if she admits to a crime of which police had otherwise no reason to suspect her of committing, but then she recants her testimony once police arrest her, yet police find probable cause to believe she did in fact commit the crime…her testimony SHOULD be admissible in court. That’s just common sense. Apparently with rules of law the testimony is not admissible without the police notifying her of her MIranda rights and the right to counsel.
Take 911 calls for example. We’ve all seen TV reality crime shows where people call 911 to report they committed a murder, and it’s caught on the recorded tape. The operator has no reason to answer “911 What’s your emergency?…and by the way anything you say can and will be used against you…etc. ” If a person confesses to a murder the tape is played back in court and the confession is used to convict. So I’m not even sure the test question at NIACC is even correct in the first place.

Well, you are not alone. Many people are very disturbed by the sight of a seemingly mobile person taking the space of someone who is truly in need of it. After all, we want to protect the rights of people for whom these spaces are reserved!
However, in our efforts to help those who deserve these parking spaces, we actually may be hurting someone who has a legal right and a legitimate need to park there. How can this be true, you ask? Isn’t it obvious who does and who does not have a disability? The answer is… no.
The general qualifications for the accessible parking spaces include those using chairs, walkers, crutches, canes and assistive dogs. Nonetheless, most of us do not realize they also include certain impaired functions of the heart or lungs, as well as conditions which are worsened to a specified impairment by walking a certain distance.
As we can see, people with a variety of disabilities may qualify to park in these spots. Moreover, not all impairments are readily evident to the onlooker. Because of this, we refer to conditions which cause debilitating symptoms that are not so apparent from the outside, as “invisible disabilities.”
There are millions of people who are forced to contend with serious illnesses, injuries and circumstances, which have left them with mountains to climb every time they take a step. Most people do not realize a person can have hindrances on the inside, that may not visible on the outside. Their restrictions may not be conspicuous at a glance, but their pain, limitations and inability to function normally can be debilitating.
FYI, you have no way of knowing if the person using a handicap space is not handicap. I am very ill and disabled, but don’t look like it.
I have a handicap parking placard and get harassed and gossiped about all the time. And yes some handicap people can still ride a motorcycle or drive a fancy sports car and still be disabled.
Handicap parking is not just for wheelchair bound people.
Their are thousands of medical conditions that qualify you for a placard and those decisions are made by actual doctors with MDs, not by lay people, such as yourself.
You are so right. A person can hurt so bad and no one can see it. By the time some walk around a grocery store, they are lucky to be able to make it out to the parking lot. Do they have to limp badly to make it look good for you that they hurt all over? Like dogs, some people do everything they can NOT to limp. Others are so weak in the body or legs that they can’t walk far. And not everyone is obese. And if a shopper is obese, s/he may be buying sweets for other members of the family. It’s extremely hard to lose weight when you can’t walk or exercise due to weak legs (spinal stenosis) or worn out joints. Depression also goes along with chronic pain and many people just say to hell with it and give up trying to lose weight because the only enjoyment they have left is eating. If you haven’t walked in their shoes, try having a little compassion. It’s not something you can snap your fingers and fix.
