CLEAR LAKE – Booze is a powerful drug.

A Clear Lake woman recently convicted of a drunk driving offense has violated terms of her probation with a guilty plea to public intoxication.

Audrey Jean Haag, age 44, pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated on January 15, 2014.  She had been stopped by Clear Lake police on November 21, 2013 and arrested.

Haag received only 3 days in jail as part of her plea, with 27 days suspended. She was also ordered to pay $1,972.25 in court costs and fines. However, she has only paid $50.00 towards that balance so far.

On March 12, Clear Lake police again arrested Haag, this time for public intoxication. She pleaded guilty immediately and was assessed $195.00 in court costs and fines, which she has paid none of at this time.

The Iowa Department of Corrections then filed a probation violation report on Haag, who could now face the remainder of her suspended jail sentence. She awaits an April 23, 2014 court date.

  1. These people have no intention of paying their fines as most of them have no money. It is a waste to fine them and does nothing but continue to make criminals out of them.

  2. So now all bar tenders are supposed to know the exact # of drinks it would take to make each individual drunk? Tell me how that would work? I know I am a lightweight and 2 beers in a night is enough for me to feel buzzed, how quickly I drink or far apart the 2 beers are consumed doesn’t matter. A friend of mine that is same height, but weighs less can slam Jagerbombs all night and act less drunk than I would after 2 beers. Sorry but it comes down to personal responsibility…

    1. … and if one needs a babysitter as an adult to monitor behavior and give permission, well then maybe that person shouldn’t be allowed to live in general society and should be living in a full time care facility.

  3. There’s something about a lazy chick with a drunk eye that is exciting. Or is it a drunk chick with a lazy eye???

  4. So ask yourselves: Is determent and punishment of the offense the city / state is trying to achieve or is it the gathering of revenue? If stopping the offense is the objective, perhaps they should resort to methods more effective than penalizing a person with debt accumulation. Perhaps mandatory committal to lock up drug and alcohol rehabilitation center would be more effective than jail and fines. Perhaps going after the bars who serve people to the point of inebriation would help also.

  5. well my gosh at least she wasn’t driving OR did they catch her before she got to her car??? Needs her eyes fixed.
