Two dead, three injured in two-vehicle accident

OLWEIN – A two-vehicle accident last weekend took the lives of two North Iowa men and critically injured three others.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that a GMC pickup was heading south on L Avenue on Sunday at about 7 PM northwest of Olwein while a Ford Ranger was heading east on 80th Street when both pickup trucks collided in the intersection at L Avenue and 80th Street.

Both drivers, 18-year-old Dakota Rohde and 28-year-old Shawn Brehme, were killed.

Passengers from both vehicles – including two children in the vehicle driven by Brehme – were airlifted to Iowa City.

The collision is still under investigation at this time.
