Six Cyclone runners earn NCAA cross country all-region honors

AMES, Iowa – Six Iowa State cross country runners have earned All-Region recognition by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.  Athletes who finished in the top 25 at one of the nine regional sites earned this honor. Four Cyclone women and two Cyclone men have been chosen for this award.

The Cyclone women who qualified for this honor were Besty Saina (who finished first overall at the Midwest Regional), Meaghan Nelson (fifth), Crystal Nelson (17th), Samantha Bluske (18th).  The No. 2 Iowa State women won the Midwest Regional. The field consisted of 211 runners.

The Cyclone men who were chosen were Edward Kemboi (21st), and Mohamed Hrezi (22nd).  The field consisted of 190 runners.

The Iowa State women’s cross country team will compete at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday.
