Cedar River Bridge will be Named in Honor of Fallen Trooper

Cedar Falls, IOWA — This week, Troopers in eastern Iowa, along with members of the state legislature and officers from local law enforcement agencies, will pause to honor a Trooper who died in the line of duty. This Wednesday, a Cedar River Bridge on I-380/Hwy 20 will be dedicated in honor of Trooper Charles Whitney.

Members of the public are invited and welcome to attend the dedication ceremony as a show support for those who serve and protect Iowa communities.

  1. In other states I have traveled through, it is common practice to name bridges for troopers who have died in the line of duty. I always thought it was a nice way to honor them. Doctors have nothing to do with roads and don’t usually risk their lives saving others. Soldiers have nothing to do with roads and we have other ways to honor them. Troopers put their lives on the line every day and too many lose their lives protecting us. There is no need to be so negative about honoring someone who died protecting us on our roads.

  2. Why dedicate a bridge to a guy who was just doing his job? Doctors save far more lives then he ever did so lets start naming bridges after them. Soldiers die in war for our country, let’s start naming bridges after them. And not some road for a kid who never even went to war but was killed in a truck accident at Cp Dodge.
