Three men charged in YMCA “sex offense” face arraignment this month

MASON CITY – An arraignment date was set on Friday by Judge Greg Rosenbladt for three men that were arrested and booked after an alleged “sex offense” incident at the Mason City YMCA in July.

Douglas Howard Petersen, 67; Dennis Clarence Vrba, 68; and David Vaughn Escher, 55 will go before a judge for arraignment on September 24th at 8:30 AM.

An arraignment is the opportunity for the defendant and his attorney to plead guilty or not guilty to the charges listed in the trial information.

All three men were arrested on August 1, 2012 and charged with indecent exposure, a serious misdemeanor.

The Mason City YMCA has stayed virtually silent on the incident despite a statement from YMCA Director Liz Conley that a statement would be released by August 8th.

“We will be communicating with our members in the next few days. We will also release a statement to all media,” Conley said.

No further communications from the YMCA regarding the matter were made since then.

You people need to calm down. They have not yet been tried, much less found guilty. Non of you were there so you really don’t know what happened. This could end up being one other persons opinion with nothing else involved. If you don’t want you kids in a adult facility don’t send them there. Until the “Y” has separate locker rooms for adults and kids the risk will always be there. Even when we had separate facility’s people would bring their kids into the men’s Health Club. This is what happens when we socially approve the gay lifestyle.

True, they have not been tried and convicted, but IMO the fact it was reported 7/20 and they were not arrested until 8/1 indicates to me there is something substantial that merited an investigation, which resulted in the arrest. This is not an “adult facility” there are separate youth and adult locker rooms. That does not mean children are not able to walk through the adult locker room and be subjected to this. I don’t think this has anything to do with “socially approving of the gay lifestyle” whatever that means. This is about adults keeping their naked, sexual actions behind closed doors.

These guys should be ran out of town and their business shut down for their actions.

They haven’t been tried and convicted yet. Hope you never step out of line.

I hope you don’t have kids that have to be around these perverts.
