Forest City, Iowa – Running and walking enthusiasts of all ages will gear up for the tenth annual 3M Puckerbrush 5K race and a newly implemented kids’ 1K race starting outside Waldorf College on July 14.
Registration for the 5K race begins at 6:30 a.m. and is scheduled to start an hour later outside Salveson Hall on south 6th street. The kids 1K race will start at 8:15 a.m. An early registration fee of $8 can be paid before July 9, and $12 on the day of the race. Participants for the 1K will be charged $1. The first 100 registered participants will receive a goodie bag and all kids who complete the race will earn a medallion.
About 90 community members participated in the race last year. Waldorf College athletics director Michael Scarano, who is also one of the race directors for this event, anticipates the number to be higher this year.
“This event brings Forest City as well as other surrounding communities together. This is our chance to show them our beautiful neighborhoods and campus,” said Scarano. “We are also introducing a 1K race for kids. I think they will have a very enjoyable time.”
Waldorf College continuing education coordinator Monica Scarano, the other race director, sees the race as an opportunity for Waldorf to give back to the Forest City community. “It is us working with the community, supporting each other, being available to people who want to see the city.”
The race will start on South 6th street, head toward O street, then continue on Spring Valley Road, Indian Avenue and John K. Hansen Drive.
3M, Winnebago and Waldorf College are the sponsors for the event. The Iowa National Guard, Titonka Savings Bank, Bill’s Family Foods, and Hardees have also made donations. For more information about the Puckerbrush 5K please call 641-585-8142.
