On Monday, April 23rd, 41-year-old Thomas Michael Arndt of Manly received a suspended 2 year prison sentence through a voluntary negotiated plea of guilt to a reduced charge of attempted 3rd degree burglary.
Arndt had been arrested by Mason City Police on the morning of February 19th and charged with one class C felony count of 2nd degree burglary and one simple misdemeanor count of domestic abuse assault following a call to a Mason City residence alleging he entered the residence without permission and assaulted a female who was inside.
According to court records he entered a voluntary negotiated plea of guilt in the burglary case on April 2nd.
At the sentencing hearing on Monday presiding Senior Judge Carlynn D. Grupp sentenced Arndt on a reduced aggravated misdemeanor charge of attempted 3rd degree burglary. Arndt received a two year suspended prison sentence and must serve 2 years of probation with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Judge Grupp suspended a $625 fine ordering Arndt to pay $286.50 in court costs and surcharges.
Arndt has plead not guilty in the domestic abuse assault case and a trial date has been set for June 28th at 8 am.

The police report states “assaulted female” might be the reason he is still awaiting trial for domestic abuse.
