MASON CITY — Authorities have identified a 50-year-old Mason City man found deceased in a yard early Thursday morning following further police investigation into the incident.

As NIT earlier reported, officers and firefighters were dispatched to the area of 6th Place SE and South Jersey Avenue at approximately 6:07 a.m. on April 9, 2026. The initial report indicated that an unresponsive male was lying in a yard near a bicycle. Upon arrival, emergency responders confirmed the individual was deceased.

On Friday, the Mason City Police Department identified the man as Martin Leroy Pedelty. Police officials, along with Pedelty’s family, released his identity while extending condolences to his loved ones.  The family also provided the photo at the top of this story, police said.

Investigators stated that, at this time, no foul play is suspected in Pedelty’s death. However, a final determination of the cause of death is pending. The State Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy, though the department noted that results typically take approximately 45 days to be finalized.

The Mason City Police Department expressed gratitude to the community for their patience during the early stages of the probe. The investigation remains open, and authorities are asking anyone with additional information regarding the incident to contact Lt. Hollander at the Mason City Police Department.
