MASON CITY — A Humboldt man is behind bars in Cerro Gordo County following a multi-month investigation into the alleged grooming and sexual exploitation of a local teenager. Devyn Ludolph, 22, was apprehended on April 4, 2026, after an out-of-county arrest and subsequent transport to Mason City to face a litany of felony charges stemming from his alleged interactions with a 15-year-old minor.
According to investigators, the illicit contact began on January 13, 2026, when Ludolph allegedly initiated communication with the juvenile to arrange an in-person meeting. Authorities claim that over the following weeks, Ludolph engaged in a systematic process of grooming, communicating with the child specifically to entice them into unlawful sexual conduct. During this period, police allege that Ludolph used a telephone to disseminate obscene material to the minor despite being aware of the victim’s age. He is further accused of capturing or recording sexual material involving the juvenile, some of which was reportedly filmed without the minor’s knowledge or consent.
The investigation reached a critical point on February 14, 2026, when Ludolph reportedly traveled to Mason City to pick up the victim. Police allege he transported the minor to various locations with the explicit intent to engage in illegal acts. It was during this Valentine’s Day encounter that Ludolph allegedly engaged in a sex act with the 15-year-old. Because Ludolph is seven years older than the victim, he faces a charge of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.
Mason City Chief of Police Mike McKelvey confirmed the details of the arrest, noting that the department’s investigator successfully applied for a warrant following the intensive probe into the digital and physical interactions between the suspect and the minor. Ludolph now faces a string of serious charges, including enticing a minor under 16 for sexual purpose, sexual exploitation of a minor, grooming, and dissemination of obscene material. He remains in custody at the Cerro Gordo County Jail as the legal process moves forward.
