March 23, 1953 – March 4, 2026
Joseph Lester Sires, son of John and Thelma (Hansen) Sires, was born on March 23, 1953, in Manchester, Iowa and departed this life on March 4, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester at the age of 72 years.
Joseph was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton, Iowa. He received his education in the Algona School System, graduating from Algona High School in May of 1971. He then attended Iowa Lakes in Emmetsburg, working towards his associate degree.
On December 6, 1974, he married Debra Eimers of Fenton. They were blessed with two sons, Caleb and Clint. They lived and worked in Algona for a short time. Eventually they moved out to the country across the road from Debra’s parents so Joe could help her dad with the farming while he worked at Arts-Way Manufacturing for 25 years. Then the hard layoffs hit; he was able to pick up work at Snap-ON for three years and then to Aluma in Bancroft for five years while farming still.
In 2002, Joe started a full-time farm operation with his son Clint. They started a cow/calf herd as well.
In 2019, Joe retired due to health reasons but still continued to help Clint farm and take care of the cows. Joe enjoyed driving their semi to haul the corn and beans.
Joe loved to golf, fish, and hunt with is buddy Jeff. He enjoyed just walking down the railroad tracks in Algona to enjoy the nature and peacefulness. Every year he enjoyed getting together with his brother-in-laws and nephews for their annual family get-together pheasant opening hunt.
Joe was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School Superintendent, a trustee, and church elder for many years.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Debra; his two sons, Caleb (Angie) Sires, Woodbury, MN and Clint (Katie) Sires, Milford, IA. His cherished and loved grandchildren, Sophia (Mara), Ames, IA, Preston and Charlie of Milford, and Lauren and Eva, of Woodbury, MN. His brother, John (Jan) Sires of Marion, IA; his sisters, Julie Daniels, The Woodlands, TX, Laura “Jeanie” Sires of Algona, and Jerri Jo Sires, of Algona; as well as many loved nieces and nephews from numerous places.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma (Hansen) Sires, his brother, Jim Sires and brother-in-law, Robert Daniels.
