On February 5, 2026, at 7:28 PM, the Black Hawk County Dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a shooting that had just occurred at 1029 Maplewood Drive Apartment #8 in Cedar Falls. The caller reported that a fight occurred between acquaintances and that a person had been shot.
Police and EMS responded to the address and located a female who had gunshot injuries. Lifesaving measures were performed, but the female died of her injuries.
The identity of the alleged shooter is known, and the public is not at risk, police claim.
Later that night, Cedar Falls Police said they took a 21-year-old male into custody related to the shooting on Maplewood Drive. Preliminary investigation indicates, according to police, that this was a dispute between acquaintances. The victim and male in custody both reside at the address of 1029 Maplewood #8.
No charges have been filed at this time, police said, as an investigation continues.
