ROCKWELL – Two Rockwell drivers collided north of town, and one driver got an airbag deployed along with a ticket.

On February 3, 2026, at about 1:46 PM, a blue 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 being driven by 26-year-old Spencer Nash of Rockwell was traveling south on Highway 65 near the intersection of 170th Street in Cerro Gordo County. Nash was coming to a stop to make a left hand turn onto 170th Street and was rear ended by a gray 2004 Chevy Malibu LS driven by 67-year-old William Russeff, also of Rockwell. Due to the collision, an air bag deployed in Russeff’s vehicle, and it came to a rest on the northbound shoulder. Nash was stopped on the southbound shoulder.

Nash and Russeff both declined medics.

Russeff’s vehicle was towed away from the scene and was taken to his home in Rockwell by a Cerro Gordo county deputy. Russeff was cited with Failing to stop within the assured clear distance Iowa Code 321.285.

The Rockwell Police Department was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office, the Rockwell Fire Department, and Mason City fire medics.
