ORLANDO, FLORIDA – No. 19 Iowa (5-0) defeated No. 7 Baylor (4-1) on Thursday night in the State Farm Field House in Orlando at the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Showcase, 57-52.
Iowa started the game with a 7-0 run. However, Baylor led by 7 in the 2nd quarter at the 4:02 mark, that capped an 11-0 run for the Bears.
Ava Heiden led Iowa with her third double-double of the season. Heiden recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds. It was Heiden’s third game of the season in double figures.
Taylor Stremlow recorded a career-high 12 points along with four assists. (4-6 FG) Stremlow has netted double figures for the second time this season.
Taylor McCabe grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, and a huge steal near the end of the game that padded Iowa’s lead as the clock wound down.
Hannah Stuelke added 10 points and seven rebounds. It was her 65th career game in double digits, the most among any active Hawkeye.
This was Iowa’s 20th win against an AP Top 10 opponent since 2000.
This was the first regular season meeting between Baylor and Iowa.
The Hawkeyes are 15-12 against AP Top 10 teams since 2020.
It was Iowa’s 107th victory against an AP Top 10 squad all-time.
The Hawkeyes have started 5-0 or better in the first two seasons of the Jan Jensen era.
Iowa is 5-0 in back-to-back season for the first time since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
Iowa hasn’t won a game scoring 60 points or less since Feb. 13, 2025. (Rutgers)
Since 2009, the Hawkeyes have won 17 games in total when scoring 60 points or less.
