August 8, 1949 — November 14, 2025
James L. “Jim” McCoy, 76, of Mason City, slipped comfortably into God’s arms after surviving a life-long battle with Crohn’s disease. He allowed the cancer to have his body after a year-long battle with lung cancer, but he never allowed it to have his spirit!
A celebration of life will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Mason City and will be announced at a later date.
James Lloyd McCoy, the son of Oliver “Buster” and Maxine (Christensen) McCoy, was born August 8, 1949, in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1969. Jim worked at Murphy’s Amusement during his teen years. He spent 30 years working with radiators, 20 years in maintenance at Gravious Estates, and 18 months in maintenance at Autumn Park until his health got the better of him. In 1969, he married Jolene Huff and two children were added to his family. He later married Bev Hoots on May 10, 1977, and adopted her three children. Jim also loved his two special dogs, Bowie and Bowzer. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, car shows, counted cross stitch, plastic canvas, diamond art, and spending time with his 16 grandchildren. He also enjoyed talking on the CB as Leaky Radiator.
Left to cherish his memory is his partner and forever love of his life, Bev McCoy of Mason City; children, Jody (Jake) Gall of Mason City, Ray McCoy of Illinois and Miranda (Justin) Stevenson of Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members.
He was welcomed home by many family members and friends, and he was reunited with his Bowie.
