Randy Dean Mohlis, 69, of rural Sumner, died unexpectedly, Monday, October 27, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation will precede services at the Church on Saturday starting at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made in Randy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.

Randy Dean, son of Wayne and LaDonna (Nuss) Mohlis was born October 22, 1956, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. He was baptized November 18, 1956, and confirmed April 4, 1971, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Randy attended Sumner Schools and graduated from Sumner High School in 1975. On November 10, 1984, he was united in marriage with Myrna Pleggenkuhle at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. John Sorenson presiding. To this union a daughter was born, Melissa. They would later divorce. Randy was a longtime farmer in the rural Sumner area. In addition to farming he worked at Rawson Control Systems as a welder for many years. Randy was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He enjoyed farming, classic rock, a cold beer with friends, and loved being with his family.

Randy is survived by his daughter, Melissa of Grinnell; siblings, Larry Mohlis of Sumner, Roger Mohlis of Perry, Terry Mohlis of Sumner and Connie (Jeff) Bohle of Epworth; nieces and nephews, Wendi (Tyler) Maifeld of Sumner, Chris (Audrey) Mohlis of Sumner, Skylar (Jamie) Mohlis Palmetto, Florida, Clint (Meranda) Bohle of Epworth and Kim Lake of Iowa City; and many other family members and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and lifetime close friend, Denny Priebe.
