

IOWA CITY – Four persons were recently shot near downtown Iowa City, and police say two teens are to blame for the mayhem.
As a result of the ongoing investigation into the Aug. 3, 2025, shooting in the 600 Block of East Court Street, Iowa City Police have made two arrests.
Moayed E. Elsid, 17, of Iowa City faces charges of:
– Attempted Murder
– Possession of a Firearm as a Felon
Additionally, a second juvenile faces one count of Possession of a Firearm as a Felon. Because that charge is not a forcible felony, the juvenile was not identified.
This case remains under investigation and additional arrests are anticipated, police say.
At 2:55 AM on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Iowa City Police responded to the 600 Block of East Court Street for a report of a shooting.
Responding officers discovered evidence of a shooting. In the hours following the shooting, four gunshot wound victims were identified. One victim was transported from the scene via Johnson County Ambulance to an area hospital where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The three additional victims transported themselves to hospitals in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
