Iowa police shoot and kill combative male subject

DENISON, IOWA – Police in this small Iowa town say they were called to investigate an incident at a park and a combative male subject was shot and killed.

At approximately 11:30 PM on Friday, August 15, 2025, Denison police responded to a call for service at Washington Park in Denison.

The officer on duty made contact with a 36-year-old male identified as Feglys Antonio Campos Arriba. Police claim Campos became uncooperative, and a physical confrontation ensued. During the altercation, the officer sustained serious injuries and fired his weapon. Campos died at the scene. The officer was taken to the hospital, treated for his injuries, and later released.

This is an ongoing investigation. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is conducting the investigation into the shooting. Once completed, the investigation will be forwarded to the Crawford County Attorney and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for review.

The officer is currently on paid administrative leave, in accordance with Denison Police Department policy.
