Patricia “Pat” Levenhagen, 85, of Charles City, passed away at home on Sunday, February 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral Mass for Pat Levenhagen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating assisted by Deacon Mike Byrne. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with a Rosary being prayed at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Patricia “Pat” Jane (Byrne) Levenhagen, the daughter of Robert and Catherine (Lawless) Byrne, was born March 12, 1940, in Charles City, Iowa. She received her education at Immaculate Conception Catholic School and began her waitressing career shortly after finishing. Pat worked at several restaurants and bars, but most will remember her from the Uptown Café and the V.F.W.
Pat was united in marriage to James Levenhagen on September 4, 1981, in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City. Pat was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was active with the Immaculate Conception Ladies Guild and various circles. She was also involved with the V.F.W Auxiliary.
Pat enjoyed cooking and baking, especially around the holidays. She would make sugar cookies for Christmas every year, and some of her family members were blessed with a delicious pecan pie (it was said that she could make the best pie crust). Most important to Pat was spending time with her family, and her baking/cooking definitely helped with that.
Pat’s life was a little happier when her K9 companions came into her life. There was Mimi (who showed up when Jim got sick almost knowing Pat would need a friend), Buffy (who was adopted through PAWS and would treat everyone to her growls), Bella (this is Becky’s dog that she would drop off a couple days a week to keep Pat company) and finally Mia (Pat and Mia bonded instantly and loved each other for the few short months they were lucky enough to spend together).
Living family members include her daughter, Becky Kirchgatter (Dean Kock) of Nora Springs; grandson, Kyle Kirchgatter of Nora Springs; siblings: David “Butch” (Janice) Byrne of Lawler, Jean Byrne of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kathy Worrall of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; daughter, Kathy Biggins; son, Jimmy Biggins; two sisters: Barb (Leo) Staudt and Roberta “Bobbie” Glaser; and brother-in-law, Gene Worrall.
