Waterloo man slapped with charges after assault of deputy

WEST UNION, IOWA – This Waterloo man housed in this Northern Iowa jail allegedly assaulted a law enforcement deputy leading to charges.

On July 29, 2025, at approximately 4:33 PM, a Fayette County Deputy charged 25-year-old Lane William Winders of Waterloo with assault on persons in certain occupations – No bodily injury, and Interference with Official Acts after he assaulted a Fayette County Deputy while being housed in the Fayette County Jail.

Winders was given an initial appearance and a bond set at $2,000 cash only bond. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Union Police Department and Gundersen Ambulance.
