January 12, 1946 – July 29, 2025

Larry H. Classon, 79 of Mason City passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

The family will honor Larry’s life privately.

Larry Harlan Classon was born on January 12, 1946, in Mason City to Harlan Forrest and Marcella (Mullins) Classon. Though the family moved frequently, Mason City was always home base. Over the years, Larry lived in Spirit Lake, Sioux City, Flagstaff, California, and Minnesota, before eventually settling back in Mason City.

Larry was a jack of all trades—he worked a variety of jobs, preferring the ones that got him outside. He had a curious mind and a knack for tinkering, always ready to take something apart just to see if he could put it back together again. He never passed up a good garage sale and had a talent for finding hidden gems in other people’s cast-offs.

He was happiest outdoors, especially if there was a grill or a fishing pole involved. Whether it was barbecuing for friends and family or spending a quiet afternoon on the water, Larry appreciated the simple things in life.

He didn’t need much, and he didn’t ask for much—just a little peace, a bit of sun, and time with the people who mattered.

He is survived by his children, Keith (Miki) Olsen of Des Moines and his daughter, Korina; Traci (Robert) Lawrence of Tennessee, Krystal (Todd Baker) Baker of Council Bluffs and her children, Dakota (Roy Garza) Classon-Garza, Kendal (Daron Terry) Bainbridge and Calvin Baker; Josie (Melissa Arnold) Classon and his children, Winter and Myles Classon; Casondra Classon and her children, Rafael Ruiz, Kahandi Banegas-Classon, and Jayden Banegas-Classon; and Tammy Sorenson; his many siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Classon and parents, Harlan “Forrest” and Marcella.
