Clear Lake, Iowa – Kathleen “Kay” A. Mahon, (96), passed away on March 26, 2025, at Wichita Presbyterian Manor, Wichita, KS.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Rev. Josh Link officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
A visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., with family sharing memories at 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 10th, 2025; at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428.
Kathleen “Kay” was born on March 25,1929, to Ernest A. and Sybil M. (Clune) Chimner in Flint, Michigan. She graduated from Flint Tech.
Kay met Arthur Mahon while he was attending General Motors Institute (GMI) Their love story began at Rickman’s Drugstore, where Kay worked at the soda fountain. On September 14, 1950, Arthur enlisted in the United States Air Force, and the two were united in marriage on August 4, 1951, in Flint, Michigan. Their union was blessed with seven children.
As a military spouse, Kay traveled extensively during Arthur’s career with the United States Air Force, embracing the adventures of each new location. A devoted servant of the Lord and her church community, Kay enjoyed her volunteer work at American Red Cross, secretary at several bowling leagues, Handicap Village, and KCMR radio station. She received several awards due to her countless hours of volunteering. Kay was the cornerstone of her family, masterfully managing the household and keeping everyone on schedule. Kay was a longtime member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest A. and Sybil M. (Clune) Chimner; her parents-in-law, Herman and Edwina Mahon; her Step-Mother Harriet Chimner, her brother, Richard Chimner; her sister Carmen Goldsworthy (Jack); her grandsons, Christopher Mahon and Shawn Mahon; great grandchild (Bode Mahon); and her husband Arthur “Art” Robart Mahon on March 20, 2023.
Kathleen is survived by her loving children: Rick Mahon (Noreen), Mike Mahon, Steve Mahon (Debbie), Dawn Mosher (Ron), Jerry Mahon (Diane), Scott Mahon (Tina), and Matt Mahon (Tracy); as well as her cherished grandchildren: Mark Mahon (Audra), Jeremy Mahon (Stacy), Mikala Heimdal (Micah), Joey Mahon, Joshua Mahon (Anh), Michelle Abdul-Kader (Nabil), Valerie Jenkins (Drew), Michael Mahon (Deanna), Heath Anderson, Kassi Riley (Jerrad), Sylvia Treace, Isaac Perez, Levi Mahon (Jessica), Cody Mahon (Samantha), Tyler Mahon (Michelle), Syrinna Mahon, Sydni Mahon, Sofia Mahon, Mia Mahon, Savanah McClemons (Matt), Tiara Musel (Gordon), and Marissa Draper; 39 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless wonderful friends who enriched her life.
Kay’s legacy of love, faith, and family will be carried on through those who knew and loved her.
