MASON CITY – Mason City’s Northside Liquor has a colorful past and although they cannot sell you booze right now, they are promoting “hot beer deals” to quench your thirst beginning next month.

At 6:00 AM on January 7, 2025, Northside Liquor’s liquor license was suspended for a second violation of sales to a minor. The license will be reinstated at 6:00 AM on February 6, 2025. Mason City police made the announcement, and they thanked the Iowa ABD “for their assistance and follow-up on this action.”  The store is located at 1303 North Federal Avenue.

Back in 2023, NIT reported that the Mason City council denied Northside Liquor a liquor license.

However down on their luck Northside Liquor may seem right now, the positivity flowing from the establishment is palpable.  In a social media post on Thursday, January 9, they said, “A lot of new stuff stocked up … come check your favourite store better selection and prices … always stay positive in life things happen you learn with mistakes and life goes on … Need you guys support help your favourite store better selection … Always appreciate you guys!”

Earlier, on January 7, Northside Liquor announced “No Sales of alcohol … Jan 7th 2025 till feb 6th 2025 …
sorry for inconvenience we are still open for tobacco and vape shop everyday same hours … 8am -2 am …
Need your support please and will be back with best deals ever thanks for understanding … Really sorry for inconvenience!”
Northside Liquor shared a poster they apparently had created, promising “HOT BEER DEALS” starting February 7, 2025 (see top).
Over the years, this establishment in a troubled area of town has kept police busy with stabbings, robberies, sale of booze to underage patrons, assaults, and more.  However, last year, a lady bought a winning lottery ticket there worth $50,000.
