According to the Iowa State Patrol, at about 5:18 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, a 2021 Polaris UTV was headed south on Michigan Avenue near 170th Street in Humboldt county. At the same time, a 2004 Ford F250 was headed east on 170th Street. The UTV, operated by 43-year-old Theodore Joseph Pranger of Dakota City, failed to stop and yield the right of way to the pickup truck, which was driven by 63-year-old Terry Dean George of Hardy, Iowa. The two vehicles collided in the intersection; the pickup struck the UTV on the passenger side.
As a result of the crash, Prenger and a passenger, 56-year-old Teresa Prenger, also of Dakota City, were killed and pronounced dead at the scene. George suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Clarion for treatment.
Theodore Prenger was a member of the Dakota City City Council.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Humboldt county sheriff and Humboldt Fire & EMS.
