A lifelong resident of Mason City, Patricia was born March 17, 1946 in Aberdeen, Washington. She was the eldest of three children born to James and Pauline (Willis) Kavars. Pat attended Mason City High School and graduated among the class of 1964.

On Valentine’s Day, 1965 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dave Gilbert, at the Wayside Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City. They were blessed with two daughters, Andrea and Heather.

Pat was a devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished the time spent with her girls and spoke with them nearly every day. Pat was kind and loving, and always saw the good in others.

She was gifted in the kitchen, and her family and friends enjoyed the bounty of her cooking and baking. She loved preparing meals for her family, and no one ever left the table hungry!

Pat and Dave spent countless hours at First United Methodist Church where they assisted with ushering and taught Sunday School in earlier years.

Always one to keep busy, Pat loved spending afternoons tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, crocheting, and playing the piano. She enjoyed meeting friends nearly every morning for their shared cup of coffee at the Village Court and was known for her love of card playing.

Those grateful in sharing in her life include her husband, Dave Gilbert; daughters, Andrea Johanns and Heather (Paul) Craff; her beloved granddaughters, Emma and Grace Johanns; brother, Jim Kavars; and her nieces and nephews.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pamela Hays; and son in law, Tom Johanns.
