DUBUQUE – Another tragedy has struck downtown Dubuque, Iowa, as a man was severely injured when hit by a train there.

Dubuque, Iowa

On February 5, 2023, at 12:35 AM, Dubuque police officers were sent to the area under the 3rd Street bridge near Highway 151/61 in Dubuque, for the report of someone yelling for help. Police located 21-year-old Jayden Paul Upton of Rock Island, Illinois, lying along the Canadian National train tracks. Upton was conscious and alert but had sustained severe injuries due to an apparent train strike.

Upton was transported to Unity Point Finley Hospital, Dubuque, by the Dubuque Fire Department and eventually flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for advanced trauma care.

The Canadian National Police Service is investigating this incident.

NIT earlier reported that a person was killed in a garage fire, and a person was shot and killed – both incidents also took place in downtown Dubuque.
