Marvin H. Emmel, 98, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. He was a resident of Apple Valley Assisted Living.

Marvin was born on February 25, 1924 at the family farmhouse near Stone City, Iowa, the son of John Henry Emmel and Nannie Margaret “Sindt” Emmel. He was one of ten children.

Marvin served in the Army during WWII and was one of the last surviving veterans of that war in Floyd County.

He married the love of his life, Margaret “Jean” Sweet on November 13, 1948 in Austin, Minnesota. They had a daughter, Nancy and adopted another daughter, Janet.

Together Marvin and Jean bought and operated Emmel Oil Company in Charles City for many years. Later they bought, operated, improved and sold many small motels in the area.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Hansen of Nebraska and Janet Eubank of Virginia. Six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Mabel Grummer of Wisconsin.
