Sleeping Northern Iowa woman hurt after dozing off behind the wheel and crashing car

RURAL FRANKLIN COUNTY – A sleeping Northern Iowa woman was hurt after falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing her car.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on July 13 in rural Franklin county. At 6:31 AM that morning, 20-year-old Kyle Renae Sailer was southbound on Mallard Avenue near 30th Street when she fell asleep at the wheel of a 2006 Kia Optima. The vehicle started to drift and enter the northbound lane, where it struck a northbound Ford F-450 driven by 29-year-old Chase Brian Hadwiger of Eldora.

As a result of the collision, Sailer was injured and transported by Iowa Falls EMS to Hanson Family Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Franklin county sheriff, Hardin county sheriff, Iowa Falls Fire & EMS and Iowa DOT.
