North Iowa juvies steal car, lead cops on outrageous chase before caught

WAVERLY – A nefarious pair of North Iowa juvies stole a car and led cops on an outrageous chase before they were caught.

On July 9, 2021, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office received information about a stolen vehicle from Fayette county. Further information received indicated that this vehicle may be traveling on Hwy 63 towards Cedar Rapids. Bremer county deputies were able to locate the vehicle at 120th Street and Hwy 63 and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle first complied and stopped, but as the deputy approached, the vehicle took off traveling southbound at speeds of 100 miles per hour. Stop sticks were deployed by the Iowa State Patrol near Hwy 3 and Hwy 63. The vehicle did strike the sticks and continued southbound towards Denver. As the pursuit was nearing denver the vehicle crossed the median and began traveling the wrong way. the vehicle the crossed the ditch in the 2700 block of Hwy 63 and entered into a private residence and eventually struck a tree on the property. Both occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, but were later taken into custody. Both occupants of the vehicle were juveniles and have been placed into the custody of juvenile court services. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with eluding, criminal mischief, speeding, driving while suspended, driving on the wrong side of the highway, and reckless driving.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Dot Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa DNR, Denver Police Department, Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Readlyn Police Department and the Denver Ambulance Service.

  1. Did you read the whole article? Please note: “Both occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, but were later taken into custody.” Key word- LATER. We don’t know when they were caught.
