OBIT: Faye Ann Buckels

Faye Ann Buckels, 86, of Mason City, formerly of Jewell, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Country Meadow Place Assisted Living in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868, 219 Main Ave., Clear Lake.

A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

The family politely requests no flowers or plants be sent.

Faye was born on August 13, 1934, the daughter of George “Otto” and Margaret Ann (Brill) Kennedy in Kamrar, IA. Her siblings included, Evan (Mabel) Kennedy, Theda (Howard) Johnson, Leah (Don) Meyers and Donna (Merle) Hamre.

Faye was a proud Kamrar Komet, playing guard on the 1948 state champion basketball team, and earning all-sate honors during her high school career.

Faye married Lloyd Keith Buckels, Jr. on June 13, 1954, in Kamrar and together they were blessed with three children, Joy Arends of Waterloo, Jada (John) Graham of Mason City and Jeremy (Sarah) Buckels of Ames.

Throughout her life, Faye worked for Becker Funeral Home and Becker Furniture Store in Jewell. She was also Lloyd’s “hired man” for the family’s farm operation. Her duties included driving a tractor in the spring and fall, as well as the grain trucks to the elevator.

Faye always enjoyed spending time in Clear Lake ever since attending the Kennedy Family Reunions as a child. In the 1970’s, Lloyd and Faye purchased their first home in Clear Lake, and to this day, she and her family continue to enjoy Clear Lake as their family getaway.

Faye is survived by her children; grandchildren, Rossi (Corbin) Payne of Waterloo, Jared (Tasha) Arends of West Des Moines and Jake (Emily) Arends of Urbandale, Jenna Gooding of Clear Lake and Jordan (Erin) Graham of Mason City, Zach (Hayley) Anderson of Minneapolis and Hannah Buckels of Ames; great-grandchildren, Caylee and Abby Payne, Keeley Duncan and Milo Arends, Olivia and Graham Gooding, Jed and Riley Graham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; siblings; son-in-law, Bruce Arends; and grandson, Jed Graham.
