CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake man is facing federal charges for allegedly exploiting a minor using an electronic device.

In October of 2020, the Clear Lake Police Department (CLPD) was contacted by Webster City Police Department about an incident using an electronic device to record and sexually exploit a minor female.

After an extensive investigation, the case was presented to the United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Iowa, for possible federal charges. After a grand jury proceeding, an indictment was issued for Clayton H. Nagel, age 34, of Clear Lake, for one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor – Via a Telecommunication Device.

Clear Lake Officers arrested Nagel on January 29, 2021 and he is currently in custody.

CLPD detectives were assisted by the Webster City Police Department and the United States Attorney’s Office.

The Cerro Gordo county jail and sheriff’s office were not willing to contribute any detail – public information such as booking dates and mug shot – on this matter despite him being jailed in their facility.
