IOWA CITY – COVID-19 contributed to the death of a convicted Iowa sex abuser incarcerated in prison.

Frederick William Lewis was pronounced dead, likely due to complications related to COVID-19 and other preexisting medical conditions at approximately 2:42 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Originally housed at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, he had been taken to the hospital several days earlier for more advanced care as his medical condition began to worsen. Lewis was 68 years old at the time of his death.

Lewis had been serving a life sentence for Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and other crimes from Dubuque County. His sentence began on July 18, 1997.
