Authorities continue search for missing Mason City man on dangerous river

RURAL WORTH COUNTY – Authorities continued the search Sunday for a Mason City fisherman missing since Friday after a boat mis-hap.

The Worth county sheriff’s office said this morning that at 7:00 AM, search efforts were resumed for 43-year-old Adam Vansyoc of Mason City. He went missing Friday around noon when the boat he and another man were in while fishing on the Winnebago River near 342nd Street in between Finch and Grose Avenues became entangled with a cable stretching across the river.

No luck has been reported in located Mr. Vansyoc.

The sheriff’s office also reported that the Department of Natural Resource command center would like to remind anyone considering being on or around the river with rapidly changing and high water levels are dangerous and deserves a person’s up most respect, any small mistakes can be catastrophic in these conditions.

  1. So, I have heard from several people that those cables in that part of the river have been an issue for years, kayakers get out and go around. Maybe if the end is going to encourage people to use Iowa’s waterways they should CLEAN UP IOWA’S WATERWAYS. The state or the county needs to get out there and back those cables out and make the area as safe as is reasonable. The family should sue worth county dnr.

    1. Clean up a lot of things. Including the plastic bags stuck in the trees downtown MC. Can Robin or Bill climb a tree?
