Waverly police charge Ankeny man with violent sex crime

WAVERLY – Police in Waverly have accused an Ankeny man of a violent sex crime and the man is locked up waiting to see a judge.

On March 6, 2020, the Waverly Police Department arrested 35-yer-old Zachariah Couleyon Sidney of Ankeny, Iowa on charges of Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree (class ‘B’ felony) in reference to an incident initially reported on December 19, 2019 in Waverly. The allegation included a forcible sex act against another’s will and a struggle ensued which resulted in the victim being strangled. The victim was able to escape and fled the residence. The defendant was not located by police after the incident.

Sidney is currently being held in the Bremer County Jail awaiting an initial appearance before the duty magistrate. Additional charges are also pending against Sidney when the investigation fully concludes.
