LEON, IOWA – An Iowa man made a big mistake Sunday morning when he was stopped by a police officer and decided to spray him with a chemical agent.
Agents and crime scene personnel with the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating an early morning shooting in the City of Leon.
On July 7, 2019, at 3:08 a.m., an officer with the Leon Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of NW 3rd Street. During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, a male in is 50’s, sprayed the Leon officer with a chemical agent. In response, the officer fired his weapon, striking the driver. The driver was provided medical attention at the scene. He was then airlifted to Des Moines hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The Leon officer is on paid administrative leave.
The name of the involved officer nor the name of the driver are being released at this time.
well, ever had spray in your eyes, completely disoriented and if its pepper spray, instantly blind with a hell of a burning. the drunk could have taken the officers gun and shot him with it. defensive training is what made him fire. just like you hear the victim was shot 5 – 6 times. that’s training. one of the gun practice shots is to shoot 10 rds in 10 seconds, including reloading so it just comes natural tht the first time u squeeze that trigger you just keep on til empty.
youre kinda right. the reason cops and alot of concealed carriers end up shooting so muany times has to do with several things. 1. shoot til the threat is no longer a threat, this means until they cant and cease to act in a threatening manner or at the point of death.
2.adrenaline dumps into your system, YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE.
3. before the “why cant you shoot them in the leg” crowd shows up. because thats stupid and saying it shows you know nothing about marksmanship or anatomy. center mass always everytime. femoral artery leg = dead.
