Speeding Minnesota driver crashes into pole in Northwood

NORTHWOOD – A speeding Minnesota driver entered Northwood Saturday morning and crashed his car into a telephone pole.

On January 12, 2019 at approximately 5:00 a.m. a vehicle was seen coming over the viaduct on 8th Street N in Northwood traveling south at a high rate of speed. A Worth county deputy pulled out behind to pursue when the deputy witnessed the vehicle run through the four-way stop light at Central Ave and 8th Street, where the vehicle, still moving at high rate of speed, subsequently struck a power line pole and a tree. The driver, identified as Ruei Gatkuoth of Albert Lea, MN was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by, Northwood Fire Co., Mason City Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.

The accident is still under investigation.
