Lawmakers aim to tighten rules for injured Iowa workers

DES MOINES – Those injured on the job could face reduced benefits if a new law in Iowa is passed.

The bill, HSB169, overhauls the Iowa Worker Compensation System with cuts to workers’ compensation benefits for workers injured on the job.

Press Conferences were held this week by labor supporters in Sioux City and elsewhere to discuss the proposed legislation and share information on HSB 169 and ways that it may affect working families.

Democrats and supporters of labor say the bill was “introduced by the Republican majority in the Iowa House of Representatives. It essentially strips away safeguards from employees who get injured on the job.

“Public sector Iowans were attacked by the gutting of collective bargaining, and this puts further strain and stress on working families here in Iowa.”

The bill remains in subcommittee at this time.
