Scores cited in seat belt sting

cited-police-featured1MASON CITY – Scores of folks found out that buckling their seat belt is a small task they should have completed before driving between Mason City and Clear Lake last Friday.

Today, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office announced that it, along with the Iowa State Patrol, the Mason City Police Department and the Clear Lake Police Department participated in what was called a “joint seat belt project” where motorists were stopped and checked for seat belt law compliance.

On February 20, as the “project” was undertaken, a total of 93 citations and 134 warnings for various traffic violations were doled out.

The program was made possible from a grant from the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Pay Day!

If you have ever had a serious accident, you know how foolish it is to drive without your seat belt buckled. It’s just common sense. I think the seat belt law is one of the best laws ever passed in Iowa and most other states also. It has saved thousands of lives and will continue to do so.

As much as I hate it we always wear our seat belts. If the car moves we have them on. Cars today are designed for seat belt use and it is just stupid not to have them on. I fought it for years because I just hate letting the government tell me what to do.

Good job, it’s a law in the State of Iowa. If your breaking the law, you should get a ticket and fined. If you don’t like the laws in Iowa, you can always move to a place where the laws are more agreeable to you. I never liked the seat belt laws when they were first introduced. But now, with all the drunk drivers out there, and the ones that can’t control their speeding vehicles, I feel somewhat safer. Seat belts could save lives, ask the family from Thompson, no second chances there.

Good. Now if they would do something about all the people who still text and drive, that would help.

I can remember when the seat belt law was passed at the objection of most of the people.

We were told they would never, ever do a seat belt sting.

Reeeeemember? I do. So much for honest cops, huh?

Most people don’t like putting on seat belts even if it is good to do. People see it as a loss of freedom. It’s their life to do with as they please.

While I buckle up, I fall on the side of freedom.

Just more of life’s harassment we shouldn’t have to put up with.

Way to many laws!

YOUR PAPERS PLEASE

Ha its really sad to see just how many people don’t know their rights.

I think they need to be prepared for some of them being criminals to.
You never know what you will find. Besides ..how long has the seat belt law been in effect? Really people are you that LAZY that you can’t buckle up ? They should get a ticket !!

This gets old. Don’t the keystone cops have some real crime they could be working on rather than bothering a guy going to work trying to make a living, and of course give half of it to bums and couch buffalo’s via the giverment…

Picking your remains out of a fence line, writing up the reports, and the emotional counseling take a lot more time and money than issuing a few tickets as reminders that it is a law to buckle up to prevent time-consuming, money-eating accidents involving people who flaunt the law and to prevent deaths!

Then you go ahead and wear yours, but I won’t be wearing mine..
I’m a big boy, I don’t need anybody to save me from myself… I’ll take care of me, you worry about you.. “If we are picking my remains out of a fence line”, I promise you won’t have felt a thing.. What’s next how many pieces of bacon I can have a week?
Oh I know we could start chasing around every kid on a bicycle that’s not wearing one of those STUPID looking helmets…
If 50 years we will all be women!!!!’

so this is where all the people in jail for possession came from. The idiots don’t fasten their seat belts (they probably are to stoned to know how) and are so stupid they carry their drugs on them. I too know a lot of people who have been stopped for the license plate light supposedly being out, and that should be stopped. They will have a new one this year. They will say it looked like you were on the phone.

It’s time for a helmet law too

So was this a checkpoint where every car was stopped or did you have to do something wrong to get pulled over??

Also if the governors traffic safety bureau has money to throw around fix the f&@”!ng roads!!!

I know of many people stopped WITHOUT cause for the dreaded license plate light supposedly being out. After being stopped, driver questioned, papers had to be given to the cops, only to find their license plates lights were not actually out?
Our police and Patrol have unlimited authority under our current socialist government.

To add to that, a light on a plate doesn’t do much good when your plate is usually covered with snow on the road. They can’t see the light or the plate. The tail light thing is just a fishing expedition for cops.
