AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s basketball head coach Bill Fennelly announced today the addition of former Cyclone volleyball standout Tenisha Matlock to the women’s basketball team.
“Maddy’s injury really forced us to look at every and all options to try and fill a major void we have in the post,” Fennelly said. “Tenisha has been a big part of our great volleyball program the last four years so she understands competing at this level. Our staff was very impressed with ‘T’ when we met her and we are all excited to give this a try. I also really appreciate the support and help we received from Christy Johnson-Lynch”
Matlock just finished up her career for the Iowa State volleyball team, earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors as a senior. Matlock finished her senior campaign with 221 kills at 2.19 kills per set and with a .312 hitting percentage, the eighth-highest mark in school history. Matlock joins Jamie Straube as the only players in ISU volleyball history to have two seasons with a hitting percentage over .300 and ranks third in school history with a career-hitting percentage of .294. In the classroom, Matlock was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 second team recipient.
Matlock was a four-year letterwinner out of North Platte High School where she set the single-game and season blocks records. She was named the Husker Radio MVP during her junior season.
Matlock has officially joined the team and is able to practice, while her eligibility to compete is pending at this time.
