GRINNELL – The No. 6 NIACC men’s cross country team placed seventh at the 52nd Grinnell College Les Duke Invitational Saturday with 217 points.
Carleton College (Northfield, Minn.) won the meet with 43 points. Wartburg College was second with 49 points and Grinnell was third with 69 points.
Bethel’s Matt Berens was the 8-kilometer individual champion in a time of 24 minutes, 32 seconds.
NIACC was led by freshman Jaime Zarate (Cedar Falls, Ia.) with a 16th place finish in 26 minutes, 35 seconds. Sophomore Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) was 18th (26:49).
The No. 11 NIACC women placed 10th with 258 points. Wartburg was the team champion with 19 points and Cornell was second with 76 points.
Sammi Bruett and Alana Enabnit placed first and second, respectively, in 22:03 and 22:40 in the 6-kilometer race.
Freshman Hannah Palmeter (Bessemer, Mich.) led the Lady Trojans with an 11th place finish in 23:33. Sophomore Lindsay Brunson (Muscatine, Ia.) was 59th in 25:48.
The NIACC women return to action Friday at the Grand View Invitational. The NIACC men return to action Sept. 28 at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.
