MASON CITY – Details are sketchy, but NIT was alerted to a brawl in downtown Mason City Thursday evening involving up to 8 people.
An NIT reader passing by the disturbance, at the 100 block of North Washington Ave., said “I’m not sure what is going on, but there’s a group of people behind the Elk’s Lodge by City Hall, and I saw a guy walk up and drop another guy, big punch to the face.”
Mason City police arrived at the scene at 11:10PM and did not clear out until 12:18 AM.
Two men were cited at the scene.
Austin Michael Richardson, 22, and Taylor Wade Fields, 19, were both cited for disorderly conduct under Mason City code.
People who think the North end starts at 1st N are retarded. The end of town on the North, is the North END. As in the end of the town. Anything North of State St. is the North side. Let me state that again. North SIDE of town, not the North END. I really hope this clears up some peoples misconception that all the bad shit happens on the North end.
With the way things are going and the blighted areas in Mason City, the North End really starts and 1st NW and all the way down to the cement plant. Start at the Transition Center and all the rentals with the mentally ill and disenfranchised people. They have a huge amount of police calls there due to mental health issues. From there on there are blighted areas rented to all sorts of unsavory folks. Then the 200 block of 5th NW to 8th NW isnt too bad. Then 9th has turned into a mess and from there it goes down hill. A few nice properties and folks left on 10th NW.
The Alley Katz patrons have now moved to Burkes, so now that will be a haven for drugs and violence real soon.
But, the YMCA has the upper middle class folks doing unseemly activities and that is in the South end. What is up with that?? Bi-sexual or Bi-curious???? Sorry for the families of these pervs.
I guess u just have to live each day to the fullest and stay as safe as possible. Mason City is changing, but, the bigger cities are getting worse too. Hang with your good friends and stay away from the bad places and have a good life….

Well…according to some people, anything north of East State is considered northend. I suppose that is so everything can be blamed on the northend. I agree – that is straight-up downtown River City!!
That is not the North End-It is smack in the middle of their Cultural Cresent. Probably a drug deal gone bad. Here it comes. It’s spreading.
