Joe Paterno statue taken down Sunday morning

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – Multiple news agencies are reporting that Sunday morning, Penn State University removed the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium.

(PHOTO: Many people have strong feelings about the fate of the Joe Paterno statue and the quote that reads, “They ask me what I’d like written about me when I’m gone, I hope they write I made Penn State a better place not just that I was a good football coach.” Photographed on Thursday, July 19, 2012, in State College, Pennsylvania.)

“Around 6:15 a.m. today, campus construction crews and police started closing off the main road that runs past the statue and installed fencing covered by blue tarp to block sight lines of the statue. By 7:30 a.m., workers had started the process of removing the statue from the ground,” the Detroit Free Press reported.

The statue was erected in 2001, several months after Paterno allegedly learned of sexual abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach.

The statue is removed six months to the day of Paterno’s death.

The University and football team face more sanctions in the fallout from the Sandusky debacle.  Those penalties could be released this week.

Are they moving the statue to the Vatican.

Yes, the pope will be using it for a clothes hanger.

This was a bad decision and will punish a lot of people who had nothing to do with the issue. The Big 10 is now getting in on the publicity and trying to suck money from the university. Paterno made one bad decision amongst millions of good ones and the whole world jumps on the bandwagon. No one really knows why he made the decision but it could have been because the snitch was a trouble maker and unbelievable.

Are you for real? One bad decision? Maybe, but it was a doozie! How about James Holmes in the Colorado movie theater? He made one bad decision. Is that okay then?

Do you have kids? I’m guessing no. Have you any idea how many young men had their lives ruined because of Jerry Sandusky, and the cover up by Paterno and other Penn State officials? They will never get over this and will most likely never be able to have a normal relationship with a loving partner, even after years of counseling.

Please rescind your statement. It makes you appear not too smart.

I stand by my comments. Not only is THE

Sorry-I was cut off for some reason. I stand by my comments. Not only is the Paterno family being punished 100’s if not 1000’s of students and faculty are being punished for what one man did. No one knows the real details for these people making this decision and you don’t either. As for appearing not to smart, I can live with that as it is better than being an opinionated jerk.

His actions or lack thereof has had an effect on the lives of more than we will ever know. He could and should have stopped this from happening. Until the day he died he never regretted not stopping this monster.

Stacey-I completely agree with what you are saying. I am sure he did regret it until the day he died. That is because hindsight is very seldom wrong where foresight is dictated by circumstances. From everything else I have heard Paterno was not a bad man. You know sometimes you just refuse to understand things that later on become completely clear.

LVS, you need to read Stacy’s comment again. She is saying Paterno did NOT regret his actions. I think you want so badly for people to agree with you that you interpreted her comment the way you wanted to. I don’t think you’ll find too many people who share your point of view.

As for all the 100’s and 1000’s of others having to pay for this, I guess that’s why a university of this stature has to make sure they’re hiring only those people with the best ethics who are concerned with EVERYONE’S welfare, and not just the welfare of those bringing in the big bucks.

I honestly can’t believe you’re defending Paterno’s actions. Read up on pedophilia and maybe you’ll change your mind.

Oh, and LVS? Why is it okay for YOU to have your opinions but I’M an “opinionated jerk”? Could it just be that anyone who doesn’t agree with you gets this label thrown at them?

So if Sandusky only molested one child one time would you defend him? I hate that the kids on the football team have to pay for the mistakes of Paterno and the others that did nothing to protect kids they knew were being molested. How many more times did the kid in the shower get molested because they did’nt even care to find out who he was. If that was your grandson in the shower that day would you defend any of these people?

From things I have read and his family stating that no is perfect it needed to come down. If he knew anything and tried to cover it up shame on him.
